- The post holder will assist in managing the Payroll team, using good communication and interpersonal skills to make continuous improvements in the Department including providing expertise and guidance to define or refine processes.
- Play an active role in staff development and ensure the workload is appropriately distributed among the team.
- The post holder will be required to demonstrate excellent organizational and administrative skills, be able to work as part of a team, possessing a friendly and positive approach to service users and staff. Have strong technical and problem solving skills.
- Be aware of all legislative changes affecting Payroll and manage all aspects of the hospitals payroll statutory requirements ensuring they are processed within the statutory deadlines.
- Maintain an effective liaison with staff in the Finance Department and other departments, and outside agencies in a confidential, courteous and professional manner
- Maintain awareness and work collaboratively with the Payroll Manager in managing the functions of the department.
- Ensuring all employees are paid correctly and efficiently in accordance with Department of Health / HSE circulars
- Proficiency in all aspects of PAYE Revenue reporting, to include RPN processes, Payroll and ERR Submissions and monthly PAYE Returns.
- Use innovation and practical knowledge of accounting practices and procedures to review internal controls and processes, recommending changes as appropriate.
- Using a high degree of proficiency of the payroll package (SAP) and Microsoft packages, prepare financial information and reports in a timely manner, liaising with the Financial and Management Accounting teams in relation to ongoing Payroll matters.
- Deal with external and internal auditor queries on an annual basis.

- Four years experience in a highly dynamic Payroll environment
- Previous managerial or supervisory experience in a Payroll Department
- Educated to 3rd level or be actively pursuing relevant post leaving certificate education
- Proficiency in use of MS Office packages and SAP HR or Payroll Package
- Proven interpersonal and stakeholder communication skills Desirable:
- Certificate or Diploma in a relevant area
- Relevant experience in a Public Sector or Healthcare setting Reward & Recognition
- Remuneration is in accordance with the Department of Health Consolidated Salary Scales, grade code 0574.
- The appointment is Full time, Permanent and pensionable.
- The annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year. The leave year runs from 1st April to the 31st of March each year.
- Normal working hours are 35 worked over 5 days. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8 am to 8 pm over 7 days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement.
