Rory Furlong

I am currently a Business and French student in the University of Limerick majoring in Risk Management and Insurance. I am required to repeat one module from 3rd year as I was unable to complete it last year due to illness. I am looking for full time work for the next 12 months and then hopefully 20 hours a week from next September on until I complete my degree in May 2025.

I have over 4 years of experience in customer service/sales roles. My most recent position with McCarthy Insurance Group as a Personal Lines Executive puts me in a great position to be able to take on roles as an insurance executive/business development executive/customer care representative.

Although my situation is not ideal, I am hoping that my positive attitude and work ethic along with my desire to strive at everything I do will allow me to make the most of this additional free time that I have found for myself.

I began my professional career as a waiter in a restaurant seating over 100 guests at the age of just 16. Having spent two years here I went on to work for RigneyDolphin Group, an outsourcing customer service company. Here, I got to learn the basics of customer service over the phone. I worked here for 1 year and then got a job as a barista in a start-up drive-thru coffee shop. The first of its kind in Waterford. I learned even more about customer service here and even got some management experience. While working here I also had a job at McGuirk's Golf Ireland as a sales advisor. Here, I learned about merchandising and sales. Following on from there, I had an 8 month work placement at McCarthy Insurance Group as a personal lines executive. I learned more about sales here than I could have imagined. I learned how to cold-call, develop relations with potential clients, qualifying leads into customers and client retention. I also learned administration and data analysing skills.

I am midway through a Bachelors degree in Business Studies with French majoring in Risk Management and Insurance.
