human rights data analyst - Ireland - PARETO SECURITIES AS

    Default job background
    Description

We are looking for a new colleague to contribute to our data work to advance human rights and sustainable development

We are looking for a new colleague to contribute to our data work to advance human rights and sustainable development

The Human Rights and Development Department at the Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) works in the interrelated fields of human rights and sustainable development, with the aim of promoting human rights through sustainable development processes.

We work with strategic partners, including national authorities, UN agencies, civil society networks and National Human Rights Institutions. We develop tools and analysis and build capacity of partners to integrate human rights into sustainable development processes around the world. This work draws heavily on our innovative human rights data tools – comprising text-mining tools and indicator-based monitoring tools.

In continuation of this, we contribute to the Institute's broader work on human rights and technology, where our application of digital tools to generate, store and process data for strategic promotion of human rights, complements the wider work of the Institute on protecting human rights in the digital sphere.

You will join the Data for Rights and Development Team and work in close collaboration with the general Data & Analysis Team of the Institute.

    Your role

An important part of your role as our new human rights data analyst will be to advise on and support the staff and external partners in leveraging the power of data to advance human rights and sustainable development. To that end you will:

    • Use, analyse and visualize data to identify trends to underpin and support research or policy work
    • Support the maintenance and update of tools
    • Contribute to development, use, documentation and sharing of the Institute's human rights algorithm
    • Design and partake in capacity-building workshops, webinars and other learning events, as relevant
    • Work with National Human Rights Institutions and other partners to improve their ability to work with data

    Your qualifications and competencies

    • Educational background in human rights, data science, social sciences or another relevant field – or a combination thereof
    • Experience of working with large datasets, data-mining, developing and maintaining databases and digital tools, and presenting data-based analysis visually
    • Experience with Power-Bi and statistics programmes such as Python or R
    • Previous experience of working with human rights or in a human rights-related sustainable development field
    • Knowledge of the relevant national and international monitoring and reporting mechanisms for sustainable development and human rights
    • Ability to learn fast and to work with a variety of stakeholders – in-house as well as externally
    • Fluency in English
    • Good understanding of human rights and SDG indicators
    • Experience in handling and analyzing datasets with a spreadsheet program, SAS programming or SQL language
    • Knowledge of Spanish, French and/or Danish

    About you

In addition to the above-mentioned competencies, we are looking for:

    • a structured thinker with a keen interest in using technology and data for the promotion and protection of human rights;
    • a team player, who works well with others;
    • someone who can be proactive and work independently; and
    • someone who is willing to learn fast and develop new skills and knowledge on the job.

    Conditions of employment

You will be based at the Danish Institute for Human Rights' headquarters in Copenhagen.

The position is full-time between 1 March 2024 – 31 December 2024, and 30h for the following years, unless agreed otherwise. You will be based in Copenhagen, with some international travel. Salary is set in accordance with the Danish Ministry of Finance's agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. In addition, it may also be possible to negotiate a qualification supplement based on relevant experience and competencies.

    Contact and how to apply

If you have any questions, please contact Department Director, Sille Stidsen at .

Send your application using the link on this page.

Deadline for application: 11 February 2024

The Danish Institute for Human Rights is a state institution, independent of government with a national and international mandate provided by law. The Danish Institute is known by its partners for being collaborative and trustworthy and for taking responsibility for creating long-lasting solutions. This allows the Danish Institute to operate in the nexus between governments, NGOs and businesses.
