About Sophie Browne:

I recently completed an MSc in Regenerative Medicine at the University of Galway (August 2025), where I am on track to graduate with first-class honours (current average: 81%).

My MSc capstone project focused on the therapeutic potential of genetically modified mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their secretome in bone regeneration. This experience expanded my technical expertise in mammalian cell culture, bacterial culture, PCR, ELISA, and related assays, while also consolidating skills gained during my undergraduate studies, including Western blotting and microscopy.

Beyond laboratory proficiency, I developed strong organisational, problem-solving, and communication skills through regular collaboration with principal investigators and colleagues.

In addition to my academic training, I bring professional experience from my role as a Protection Claims Administrator at Irish Life Assurance plc. There, I honed skills such as maintaining accurate records, managing confidential data, adhering to regulatory requirements, and working effectively within structured processes. I also developed strong proficiency in MS Office and built a track record of meeting deadlines while ensuring precision and compliance.

With my blend of scientific training, administrative experience, and strong commitment to accuracy and teamwork, I am confident I can add value to any team.

In my spare time I play Gaelic football, Camogie and basketball with my local clubs. I also enjoy playing the guitar, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Experience

I have previously worked for Irish Life Assurance plc. as a Protection Claims Administrator. My responsibilities included providing customers with regular updates on policy claims to ensure financial services regulatory requirements were met, identifying and implementing process improvements,, analysing data on a quarterly basis in relation to the claim statistics, compiling required information packs to support the claims process, providing training to other team members in preparation for my departure.

Education

I completed an MSc in Regenerative Medicine in University of Galway in August 2025 and I am on track to graduate with a first class honours. This course involved many interesting modules, such as translational medicine, tissue engineering and gene therapy, as well as a capstone project. The capstone project consisted of three months laboratory placement and a written thesis. My project focused on the potential of genetically modified mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their secretome on bone regeneration. This project has expanded my expertise in mammalian cell culture (including transfection and transduction), bacterial culture and DNA isolation, PCR, ELISA and various assays such as alizarin red staining.

I graduated with a BA in Biochemistry from Trinity College Dublin in 2024 with a final grade of 65% (2.1). During this degree I undertook modules such as protein structure, immunology and immunometabolism and cancer biology. My capstone project for this course, which also consisted of a 3-month laboratory placement and a written thesis, focused on the effect of granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) on iron metabolism on alveolar macrophages. This project provided experience in mammalian cell culture, protein and RNA isolation, Western blotting, PCR and microscopy.
