Mohammad Faiz Khan

Mohammad Faiz Khan is a Research Scientist at the Department of Medicine in the National University of Ireland Galway working on the research goal of creating a virtual human model which involves extensive knowledge in systems biology, human metabolism and predictive medicine and pharmacokinetic modelling tools such as PBPK, PK-PD and others important computational approaches.

I have a strong drive to comprehend how metabolic dysfunctions contribute to different disease in human. Additionally, I aim to construct a novel, comprehensive PBPK-COBRA model framework that can generate a virtual human model. This model will aid in understanding drug metabolism and assessing drug effectiveness in patients, ultimately identifying potential targets for therapy.

Novel Research work carried out during Maters and PhD, titled: 
Integrative approaches in systems biology in understanding various human diseases. 
The interactions between hierarchical levels in different biological organizations presented a challenge to the metabolic reconstruction approach in systems biology. However, integrative systems biology approaches, such as incorporating COBRA into PBPK modelling, offer a comprehensive physiologically based platform with mechanistic details for individual tissues. This work also developed an algorithm for integrating two different modelling paradigms. The integration framework was applied to investigate metabolic modulation in the gut-brain axis of patients with autism spectrum disorder.
