Perfect Strangers

Perfect Strangers

That article was originally started months ago and was shaping up with huge difficulty. Add a mix of laziness, musings and life’s obligations and you obtain one of those things you start and never finish. To be honest I did not think it was strong enough or that the story was even remotely interesting.

I had in mind something about how you meet and bump into perfect strangers daily. How sometimes you get very close to them even for only a moment. Be it a smile , a short conversation or maybe just a nod or a thank you wave if you are travelling by car.

I was thinking we were probably more readily to accept somebody without the bias knowledge of relationship that we would care to admit. I was upbeat at the idea about how less inhibited we were sometimes in sharing information with people we hardly know. I was positively energized by the fact maybe you can sometimes place so much trust in somebody we hardly met. I was excited about having faith again in humans letting go of all their artificially intelligent  alter ego

But I thought that was strange and counter intuitive or maybe there was no point, and I should leave it at that

I thought maybe I should have written more eloquently about brain waves or push complex theories

I thought maybe I should have aimed at producing my best work one of those who would be powerfully transcendent and generate rounds of applause

In the end I thought that maybe all this intellectual gesticulation was actually too vain

Who knows I should have been stronger you tell me, maybe I should have made more efforts and provided a bit more rigour.

I don’t know really know what happened, the fact is I don’t really care either.

The article I started does not exist any longer.

At least to me It has become a

Total stranger

I love the idea of perfect stranger. Should it be ‘perfect’ +_ ‘stranger’?

There is something about the passer, the unknown, that makes life worthy of humanity. How one conducts themselves is the teller; do we bury good deeds or not? How do we react? A curious question.Do we live in these [unspoken] moments…do they make life more worthy, fulfilling, notable. Could be that maybe we are measure by the random encounter of something that you can give or receive - quite incidentally, that gives our passage purpose? Damn well hope so!

A beautiful, pensive piece into probably the most important idenifier of self - the unknown bump or brush of being. Thanks Pascal!

After reading your post, Pascal, I've re-read some of my drafts that remained unfinished for a long time. I should have been more persistent and finished what I had started. The voice of my inner critic is responsible for many of my drafts never being published. Instead, they became total strangers to me. :)

You inspired me to finish and publish my few drafts. They don’t have to be perfect. :)

Well, you did salvage something out of it. I have recently gone through the same thing with a screenplay I wrote. I ended up scrapping it after about 210 pages. The reason, In hindsight (always 20/20), was that I didn't have an ending in my head when I started. I had no end zone to run to. Sometimes that happens. Hopefully not too often.

Perfect Stranger, this phrase prompt to ask myself what is a perfect Stranger? How would I know one if I met one? Are there such things as imperfect ones?

I suspect it all comes down to what you describe as bias knowledge, and how our alter ego guides our actions.

The voice in the head whispers ideas causing one to brighten and become eager.  Then enters the “voice of reason".  This voice of reason which might often be correct and lead us from the danger can very often kill that small whisper where creative crazy ideas live.

Why not keep going until the stranger either becomes a friend or gets totalled in a motorbike accident? Dutch band Gathering, huh? Wergeland certainly has an interesting voice.

I have, eventually learned to hit the music link at the end of your articles before I start reading. You always put up such interesting bands and it's fun to have your soundtrack become mine for a few minutes.

Oddly I was thinking about some conversations with people I met hitching and I have often been surprised by how much someone was willing to share with, not only a complete stranger but also a complete stranger they would never meet again.

Maybe your ‘total stranger’ article will return one day.
