As part of this mission, we are looking for a systems thinking Product Designer who is a creative problem-solver to lead and build a state-of-the-art design system for Shutterstock and our portfolio of brands (Pond5, PremiumBeat, and TurboSquid). Your work will empower our customers to achieve success in their creative endeavors. This requires a designer who is curious about how users behave, can identify usage patterns, design concepts, test, iterate, learn, and manage their timelines to ensure a smooth roll out. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a collaborative environment, where through agility we ship quickly, and through experimentation we learn what resonates with our users to improve their experience.

    The day to day

  • Own and lead the design of our in-house figma-based design systems, components, and pattern library.
  • Help develop scalable and flexible global design documentation and guidelines to maintain clean and consistent user interfaces across our brands.
  • Collaborate with product designers to understand net new patterns to be codified and update existing ones based on experimentation results, usage analytics, and user feedback.
  • Partner closely with front-end engineers on the implementation of and keeping Storybook in-sync with the design system to ensure we have consistent end-to-end experiences across all our brand sites.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to bring innovative design ideas to the table.
  • Be our go to expert on all things Figma so you can unlock the design team's velocity via the latest updates and innovative plugins.
  • Extensively post GIFs and emojis throughout Slack channels.

    • What does success in the first six months look like?

  • Run an assessment of our current Shutterstock design system, come up with a list of recommendations, a timeline for implementation, and execute that work.
  • Work with the front-end engineering team to stand-up Storybook and get it to an MVP state.
  • Start developing new design systems for our PremiumBeat and TurboSquid brands.
  • Maintain our Pond5 design system.
  • Assess how we're using Figma and come up with a list of recommendations for how we can better leverage it to unlock design velocity, consistency, and quality.

    • What you bring to the role

  • You have proven experience as a product designer, with a focus on creating and maintaining design systems.
  • You have designed for a variety of screen sizes ranging from desktop to mobile.
  • You have a deep understanding of design principles, user interface design, information architecture, and interaction design best practices.
  • You have collaborated with cross-functional teams, including product designers, engineers, marketing creative designers, and product managers.
  • You have experience working with Storybook,
  • A plus if you have front-end development, and/or frameworks (HTML, CSS, JS, React, iOS, Android).
  • A plus if you have e-commerce experience.
  • A plus if you have localization and/or accessibility experience.
  • A plus if you have some experience in prototyping micro interactions, motion, and animation.
  • You are a curious, passionate, motivated, and proactive teammate. You are comfortable with taking what is ambiguous and making it tangible by leveraging systems and design thinking techniques.
  • You'll have a portfolio that showcases your work, provides details of your role on projects, and shows expertise in designing and implementing design systems for large-scale products (see).
