    Description

    Limerick City and County Council invites applications from suitably qualified persons, who wish to be considered for inclusion on a panel from which temporary and permanent vacancies for Ecologist may be filled throughout the lifetime of the panel.

    The successful applicant must demonstrate that they possess the attributes required of an ecologist and in particular demonstrate, by reference to specific examples from their career to date, that they possess the qualities, skills, and knowledge required for the role of Ecologist.

    The Ecologist will be part of the Forward Planning Team and will have a role to assist in fulfilling the Local Authorities obligations under the Habitats Directives and Strategic Environmental Assessment Legislation. Planning authorities are responsible for the application of Article 6(3) and 6(4) of the Habitats Directive as it relates to the roles, functions and responsibilities in undertaking Appropriate Assessment of plans and projects. It applies to plans and projects for which public authorities receive an application for consent, and to plans or projects which a public authority wishes to undertake or adopt.

    The role of the Ecologist is an integral part of the Forward Planning Team and will be reporting to the Senior Planner or their nominee.

    Ecologist will be expected to provide overall technical support, professional advice and analysis in relation to specific cases and issues, general environmental / marine matters and policy / development related issues effecting the Local Authorities operations. They will also be expected to carry out the following non-exhaustive list of duties:

    Land Use Policy:

    • Appropriate Assessment reporting for land use plans and policies;
    • Assist with the preparation of Strategic Environmental Assessments for land use plans;
    • Ecological Impact Assessment reporting as required
    • Coordinate and carry out, as appropriate, environmental monitoring of plans and projects.

    Development Management and Enforcement:

    • Advising on Appropriate Assessment for the development management / enforcement process; and
    • Provision of ecological support and advice to planning staff at all stages of the development management / enforcement process.
    • Evaluating Ecological Impact Assessments
    • Evaluating and offering advice on Environmental Impact Assessments.
    €55,519 - €77,176 per annum, inclusive of LSIs

    30 days annual leave

    Hours of Work

    A five day, thirty five hours working week, hours may vary from time to time.
