    Position Details

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's Degree (MA) from an accredited college or university, or equivalent, is required
  • Must hold a valid Administrator's Certificate or be willing to enroll in a program leading to certification as a school administrator
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate – secondary (preferred)
  • Have at least three (3) years of previous successful teaching experience
  • Demonstrate successful experiences in instruction, administration, coaching and leadership preferred
  • Demonstrate experiences in the improvement of student achievement
  • Working knowledge of best practice strategies; able to make research-based decisions
  • Ability to collect and analyze data to assess student achievement to affect changes in curriculum, assessment, programs, teaching and leadership practices, as well as the attitudes of stakeholders about needed changes
  • Adaptable, willing to make decisions
  • Works with the Board of Education, staff members, students, parents, and community groups regarding issues and concerns related to all aspects of educational programming and athletics to assure horizontal and vertical continuity and articulation of the district's entire education and athletic programs
  • RESPONSIBILITIES

    Assistant Principal

  • Participate in, coordinate, and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the district; participate in the school improvement process
  • Assist students in establishing high standards of conduct
  • Communicate information and strategies to students and teachers that effectively move both groups toward effective behavior management
  • Maintain a standard of student behavior designed to emphasize effort, personal responsibility, and respect; minimize school and classroom disruptions (PBIS, CPI, de-escalation)
  • Assist in the enforcement of the school's attendance policy; share oversight of attendance monitoring with Principal; call and meet with parents/guardians to develop strategies for increased student attendance
  • Assist with discipline of students and student-athletes
  • Assist with personnel evaluations (support staff & professional staff)
  • Assist Principal in leadership of school safety routines, drills, practices, and monitoring effectiveness
  • Coordinate with local business and organizational partners
  • Assure the safety and welfare of students
  • Seek out professional learning opportunities (e.g. books, articles, trainings, videos, etc.) and consultations with other administrators, stay informed of best practices, and reflect upon growth and development
  • On occasion, assist Principals in the coverage of classrooms without substitute teacher coverage
  • Collaborate with school administration to strengthen curriculum
  • Assist in coordinating state proficiency testing
  • Behavior Specialist

  • Participate as an active member of student support team to help design, implement, monitor, and adjust educational plans for individual students
  • Communicate information and strategies to students and teachers that effectively move both groups toward effective behavior management
  • Maintain a standard of student behavior designed to emphasize effort, personal responsibility, and respect; minimize school and classroom disruptions
  • Establish himself/herself as a leader in Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports (PBIS) and CHAMPS initiatives
  • Collaborate with Principals on progress monitoring the overall success of PBIS initiative and "leading up" by proposing actions that would lead to greater success
  • Assist in the enforcement of the school's attendance policy; share oversight of attendance monitoring with Principal; call and meet with parents/guardians to develop strategies for increased student attendance
  • General Leadership / Administration

  • Make recommendations to the Principal and Superintendent on any matter which will improve the excellence of the District
  • Assist in the establishment of goals and objectives for the middle school
  • Represent the building administrative team on school district committees as assigned
  • Evaluate, counsel, and motivate staff toward performances to attain the educational goals of the District, including formal staff evaluations
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participating attitude on the part of all teachers and students
  • Maintain effective communication to keep staff, students, and parents properly informed
  • Hire new staff and properly orient them to the district
  • Possess computer competency and familiarity with emerging technologies; ability to make effective presentations
  • Promote school and community relations
  • Conduct himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position
  • Maintain relationship with district business office
  • Attend building and District events; attend all Board of Education meetings
  • Attend professional conferences, seminars, and workshops in education, educational administration, and/or athletics as per agreement and/or Superintendent
  • Perform any other job responsibilities deemed appropriate by the Principal and/or Superintendent
