    Job Purpose:

    Antibody engineering and screening sciences within a nimble (multi-project) and cutting-edge biotherapeutic discovery team in our Display-based Optimisation Group which is part of the global Biomedicine Design (BMD) team. Our laboratory is located at Grange Castle in Dublin, Ireland and focuses on the application of advanced protein engineering technologies towards the discovery and optimisation of novel protein therapeutics, with a particular emphasis on monoclonal antibodies. Pfizer is a leader in the development of protein biopharmaceuticals and has a successful track record of multiple product approvals in Oncology, Inflammation, Rare Diseases and Cardiovascular disease.     Job Responsibilities:

    • Perform antibody discovery and engineering work (including phage & yeast display technologies, antibody library construction and selection, functional screening and reformatting of key leads), within a matrixed team of researchers.
    • Perform troubleshooting and resolution of experimental issues.
    • Facilitate cross-functional project teams internally within PDOG, across BMD and between BMD and Pfizer R&D research units (RUs).
    • Implement effective technology development & continuous process development to ensure success on drug discovery programs.
    • Develop and maintain productive links with colleagues across R&D, and in the external scientific community, to maintain current information, skills and knowledge in the BMD.

    Education/Experience:

    • Minimum qualification BSc or MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or equivalent relevant discipline.
    • Experience in a biotechnology/biochemistry research environment is preferred.
    • The position will require proven molecular biology skills (i.e. DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, DNA manipulation and transformation).
    • Previous experience with bacterial and/or mammalian expression systems and protein purification is desirable.
    • Some experience with high-throughput automation is an advantage.
    • Functional knowledge and experience of protein display technologies and the use of recombinant antibody libraries is preferred.
    • Proven ability to organise and conduct experimental research.
