    Job Summary and Description:

    Role/Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will join the Transmission Operations and Planning Group at EPRI, a team of leading power system analysts and energy-economic modelers. You will source and prepare datasets, build and extend resource adequacy and resilience models, and conduct adequacy analyses to address research questions around electric sector, interconnection and economy-wide decarbonization in the Middle East, U.S., and other countries. You will prepare slide decks, reports, and briefings, and present research findings to a wide variety of audiences. This position supports new EPRI modeling work in the Middle East and Europe, as well as supporting our existing U.S. based adequacy team engaged globally.

    The Transmission Operations and Planning team offers the opportunity to work with established experts in a stimulating and innovative environment to tackle key research questions in collaboration with electric companies and Government partners. You will have autonomy in project work while collaborating with a broader team, with input over your hours and schedule in a flexible work environment. This position is based in either Ireland, Spain, Germany, France, UAE (Dubai) or any other EU country where EPRI Europe operates. You can choose to work remote, or out of an office in Dublin or Dubai.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate would have:

    • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in electrical engineering, operations research, energy resources, economics, computer science, systems engineering or related education;
    • Experience in building and running an energy sector simulation or optimization model; experience with resource adequacy or reliability assessment is a plus;
    • Experience conducting analyses to answer policy, regulatory, market and/or technology research questions for energy sector stakeholders;
    • Experience or demonstrable understanding of capacity markets, resource accreditation or resource adequacy assessments in the European or Middle East context.
    • Experience with at least one high-level modeling system for mathematical programming, optimization, and economics, such as Python, Plexos, GAMS, AMPL, Matlab, R, or similar educational experience;
    • Excellent research and writing skills; strong oral communications skills; ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
    • A positive attitude, comfortable working both collaboratively and independently.
    • Experience and interest in developing and contributing to cutting-edge research and communicating transfer of knowledge;
    • Experience with or interest in project budgeting, scheduling, creating written deliverables.

    Some international travel (15-20%) is expected to support conferences, meetings, and company visits.
