    The opportunity: In your role as Multi-site Health & Safety Officer, you will be directly responsible for the coordination and execution of all Health & Safety responsibilities . Your main duties include:

  • Ensure that all safety legislation is adhered to and best practice principles and policies are adopted throughout the sites by implementing and maintaining a robust Safety system in line with the WestRock Safety Excellence System.
  • Assist the sites in planning, implementing, monitoring and reviewing the protective and preventative measures require to minimize operational losses, occupational health problems, accidents and injuries.
  • Take the lead with any H&S issue at site and ensure that all staff are complying with the company procedures.
  • How you will impact WestRock:

  • Make changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Lead the site H&S Committee meetings, listening and working collaboratively with employees at site.
  • Work with the Regional H&S Leader to deliver health and safety strategies and develop internal, site based policies.
  • Assist and provide guidance on carrying out risk assessments and considering how risks could be reduced.
  • Assist and provide guidance on carrying out COSHH assessments.
  • Provide site with support and guidance with operational learning events.
  • Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards.
  • Assist with regular site and equipment inspections to check policies, procedures and working practices are being implemented correctly.
  • Provide internal and external audit support.
  • Assist the Group's/Division's efforts to improve H&S performance/standards by coordinating the reporting of injuries/incidents, ensuring there is a proper level of operational learning
  • Manage the Safety Excellence System.
  • Keep up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of H&S legislation/developments and brief teams of any changes via workflow.
  • Advise teams on specialist areas such as fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, appropriate guarding of machinery and occupational diseases.
  • Ensure sites meets the Fire Safety Legal requirements
  • Support HR by providing expertise and knowledge on all Health and Safety activities.
  • Conducting internal audits and effectively plan to address any gaps noted.
  • Carry out other general administration activities as an when required.
  • What you need to succeed :

  • Knowledge of H&S legislation with the ability to understand and interpret legislation as appropriate to the site.
  • Growth and Results Oriented: Demonstrates an interest, willingness and drive to learn new things.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with others to complete a task or achieve a common objective.
  • Communication: Excellent communication (verbal & written), presentation and public speaking skills spoken and written communication skills
  • Proven experience as a trainer
  • Required: Minimum of 2 years experience of working within H&S specialism
  • Desired: Minimum of 2 years experience of working in a production environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Programmes
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma or part qualified
  • Desired: ISO45001 and ISO14001 Internal Auditor
  • Willingness to work flexible schedules/shifts
