E3 Assistant Professor in Wildlife Distribution Modelling - Dublin, Ireland - Trinity College Dublin
Description
Job Title : E3 Assistant Professor in Wildlife Distribution Modelling Pay Scale : Lecturer Merged
Trinity is Ireland's leading university and is ranked 81st in the world (QS World University Rankings Founded in 1592, the University is steeped in history with a reputation for excellence in education, research, and innovation, which has been inspiring generations of thinkers for over 400 years.
The School of Natural Sciences are seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor within the discipline of Zoology with an excellent research record in wildlife distribution modelling. Global climate change and habitat destruction are rapidly changing the distribution and abundance of organisms around the globe. Statistical, analytical and simulation modelling of complex systems and the collection, curation and analysis of "big data" in ecology and environmental sciences is increasingly important. Accordingly, this role represents an opportunity to link statistics/computing/data science and biodiversity/ecology/evolution/palaeontology towards relevant major environmental and societal challenges.
As a fundamental aspect of E3 teaching and research, we aim to build on a track record of excellence in this field. Candidates with successful research achievements and potential in field and/or laboratory-based wildlife distribution modelling are invited to apply. Areas of expertise may include biodiversity, ecology, data science, modelling and digital technologies for monitoring populations and communities across spatial scales.
Research in wildlife distribution modelling will synergise with current and future staff in the School of Natural Sciences, with potential for participating in wider networks addressing societal and economic challenges including (but not limited to): global change, conservation, wildlife management, climate and land-use change, biodiversity change/loss and water quality degradation. The mobility of animal species brings a particularly important dynamic to the modelling of biodiversity changes. Additionally, the field has wide possibilities for interdisciplinary links outside the School of Natural Sciences with, for example, computer science, genetics, engineering and interdisciplinary conservation projects.
Post Status Tenure Track - This position is Tenure Track position which is 5-years in the first instance, permanency is subject to satisfying the tenure requirements.
Salary : Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale (109BN) commensurate with qualifications / experience and in line with Public Sector Pay Policy [€39,469 to €95,441 per annum]
