    Description

    Clinical Specialist Radiographer MRI

    The Radiology Department at UPMC Whitfield Hospital provides a comprehensive service to both inpatients and outpatients.

    This includes General Radiography, Theatre Imaging, Ultrasound, Cathlab, MRI, CT, and DEXA services.

    The successful candidate will work as a member of the Radiology Department and multi-disciplinary teams, providing a high-quality MRI service to patients in accordance with professional standards of practice.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide strategic and clinical leadership to deliver an effective, efficient, quality-assured, and patient-centered MRI service.
    • Carry out general and highly complex MRI and radiographic procedures while maintaining high professional standards and adhering to strict current legislation.
    • Organize, plan, and prioritize workload according to clinical need.
    • Undertake primary responsibility on a day-to-day basis for the Magnetic Resonance Imaging service and the effective utilization of all resources allocated.
    • Be accountable for the day-to-day quality of the service provided, including customer service and technical aspects.
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of operational policies, protocols, and guidelines to ensure optimum utilization of resources and systematic audit of such usage.
    • Advise on equipment selection, purchase, replacement, or upgrading.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with hospital standards.
    • Report operation issues to the Radiography Services Manager.
    • Manage use of consumables efficiently.
    • Assess patients' suitability for I.V. injections by checking renal function and any contraindications.
    • Assess all implanted devices and potential foreign bodies for MRI safety for both staff and patients as per department policy.
    • Implement a continuous learning program for all staff to keep up to date on MRI safety issues.
    • To dispense and administer I.V. injection as per departmental policy.
    • Ensure all patients who suffer a contract reaction or any other illness during or after an imaging incident are correctly cared for and followed up afterwards in line with hospital policy.

    Requirements:

    • Possess a degree in Radiography or the Diploma of The College of Radiographers.
    • Be registered in the Radiographer's Division by The Radiographers Registration Board maintained at CORU.
    • Have not less than 5 years full-time post-qualification clinical experience in MRI.
    • Possess a recognized postgraduate course in MRI as recognized by the IIRRT.
