    Description

    Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Bacteriology, Contract Type B at University of Galway. This is a part-time (0.5 full time equivalent), specific purpose contract.

    The Discipline of Bacteriology contributes to teaching undergraduate students in medicine, nursing, midwifery, health sciences and natural sciences. Research within the Discipline of Bacteriology is coordinated through the Antimicrobial Resistance and Microbial Ecology (ARME) Group and is focused on antimicrobial-resistance, food and water borne infection, emerging contaminants, the wider societal impact of infection, and One Health.

    Working as part of a team the successful candidate must have a PhD in Microbiology, Pharmacy or a closely related Discipline and will be required to make significant contributions to the delivery, assessment and evaluation of teaching in clinical microbiology, infection prevention and control, genetics, and aspects of One Health across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences and in other Colleges within the University as appropriate. Of particular importance will be leadership in and contribution to the development of undergraduate and new taught postgraduate programmes.

    The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the research activities of the Discipline of Bacteriology and the ARME group. The successful candidate will be expected to work towards acquiring national and international funding and establishing national and international collaborations within and outside academia. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate researchers and disseminate research findings. Experience of research in the areas of zoonotic disease, antimicrobial resistance, microbial genomics and/or One Health is essential. The successful candidate will also contribute to the outreach and communication programme of the Discipline of Bacteriology, the ARME Group, and the Ryan Institute Centre for One Health.

    Salary: €59,801 to €95,401 pro rata p.a. (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011) This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University's Remuneration policy.
