    Description

    We are delighted to announce we are recruiting for a Director of Nursing to join our Orpea Family.

    The Residence Kilkenny is a state of the art, brand new build, purpose-built Nursing Home set within a short distance of Kilkenny town centre, Co Kilkenny, opening in June/July 2024.

    The Nursing Home consists of 80 single ensuite bedrooms, furnished to an exceptionally high standard.

    Director of Nursing - Home Manager

    Purpose of Position

    To effectively manage the successful operation of the designated Nursing Home, ensuring delivery of on the key objectives of the delivery of excellent and consistent person-centred care with high quality care standards being maintained while in line with commercial targets and business objectives.

    Reports To

    Regional Director

    Key Relationships

    Internal: Residents; Families; COO, Regional Director; Deputy Home Manager; CNMs; All staff in the Home; all Support Office staff (Finance, HR, Projects); peer Home Managers and Deputy Home Managers

    External: Regulatory bodies; referring agencies; contractors and suppliers; Training Bodies.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be responsible for achieving the following key outcomes:

    Management:

    To manage all facets of the service to ensure a high standard of resident care always.

    To provide support, advice and guidance to the Home by way of an on-call arrangement.

    Plan and manage on call rota with Deputy Home Manager(s) and CNM's.

    To lead by example and be a role model to focus staff on resident care by fostering a person-centred approach underpinning the values and philosophy we hold in the nursing home.

    Be involved in the recruitment, selection, induction, management and supervision of all new staff.

    To manage and support all heads of department including nursing, household, maintenance and catering staff.

    Educate and support staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures on a 24-hour basis. This will include some night monitoring visits.

    Liaise with and communicate with MDT practitioners ensuring a person-centred service to the residents in our care.

    Care Provision:

    Ensure that care is delivered at a high standard in keeping with the company's person-centred approach and in line with company's policies and procedures.

    Educate and advise all staff on the person-centred approach and the importance of ensuring same in all delivery of care, engagement and interaction with residents.

    Ensure that any deficit in the service is managed in keeping with the company's relevant policies.

    Ensure medication is managed within the home and compliance with ABA, Company Policy, HSE directives and guidelines.

    Conduct audits of the services provided within the home and report findings to the Regional Director.

    Manage, support and guide senior nursing staff in the home

    and ensure their teams function effectively.

    Communication

    Communicate openly with all staff, residents, families, other health professionals and visitors in a courteous and professional manner reflecting positively on the Home.

    Ensure all company reports and information that is requested internally are prepared and delivered on time.

    Attend internal company meetings and represent the company externally at meetings when and if required.

    Ensure all relevant information is disseminated to the appropriate staff.

    Budget/Finance

    Develop and implement with guidance, an appropriate business plan/budget for the home maximising occupancy and ensuring appropriate cost controls across all departments whilst maintaining standards.

    Liaise directly with the Finance Controller (FC) and the finance department to ensure timely submission of financial information.

    Be responsible for the management of Petty cash and other monies entering the home from the/or on the way to Support Office.

    Manage the day to day expenditure in the home and ensure that the home running costs are within budget.

    Assist with the collection of fees and other monies owing from residents and their families in respect of billable extras.

    Approve all purchases within the home in consultation with the finance team and ensure reconciliation of purchase orders and invoices.

    Human Resources

    Strategically consider issues of HR across all departments within the Nursing Home.

    Ensure staff rosters are managed to ensure an adequate staff skill mix is always maintained.

    Recruit, induct and manage all staff to facilitate excellent person-centred care.

    Manage staff disciplinary and grievance procedures seeking advice and input from the Operations team (GDoO and HR personnel) where appropriate and required.

    Ensure staff compliance with company Policies and Procedures.

    Educate and promote person centred care philosophy to all staff.

    Marketing

    Communicate and liaise with nominated lead on marketing on an on-going basis.

    Attend meetings as required and actively participate in all marketing events.

    Ensure occupancy targets are met and/or exceeded.

    Present a positive image of the home to the community.

    Network with other agencies in the community, healthcare professionals and agencies to ensure a positive image of the nursing home with others.

    Have a sound knowledge of competitors and competitive activity.

    Training and Development

    Ensure staff receive an appropriate induction, supervision and yearly appraisals in keeping with company policy.

    Lead, guide, support and motivate staff to ensure agreed objectives are met and provide coaching where necessary to staff who need to improve their performance.

    Educate and focus staff on the person-centred philosophy, ensuring the care they provide meets the needs of their residents and families are met.

    Ensure staff competencies by facilitating staff to assess their training needs and to accommodate their training needs as required and appropriate.

    Liaise with the training co-ordinator to ensure staff training needs are realised, planned effectively, managed and co-ordinated appropriately.

    Seek feedback from staff to ensure training provided is meeting their needs and adequate for the standard expected from external bodies.

    Health and Safety

    Manage the Home appropriately ensuring the safety and comfort requirement of the residents are met.

    Manage the home appropriately and effectively ensuring the safety requirements of the staff and visitors are met.

    Ensure staff are provided with appropriate training and support to meet and address health and safety requirements.

    Ensure compliance with all companies' policies and procedures.

    Ensure compliance with external agencies such as HIQA and HSA and other regulatory requirements are maintained.

    Regulation

    To ensure the Home meets all statutory and regulatory requirements.

    Ensure the Home is prepared for Inspections (HIQA, NERA, EHO and Fire Officer).

    Qualifications Skills & Attributes required:

    • Qualified Nurse with at least 3 years Management experience in the last 6 years in care of the older person
    • Post registration management qualification in health or a related field
    • Proven track record in healthcare clinical management
    • Excellent Leadership, Organisational and Communication skills
    • Sound decision making ability and results driven
    • Ability to work well and promote a team environment
    • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the company
