About Rita Ferreira:

My name is Rita Ferreira, I am 21 years old and I finished my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at Nova School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon. My final grade was 15 out of 20.

I did some internships, one in the area of neuroscience and another in the area of the study of proteins.

Experience

I did some internships, one in the area of neuroscience and another in the area of the study of proteins.
My final thesis (thesis grade was 19 out of 20) was about neurodegeneration, I study the impact of retrotransposons on the aging of Drosophila melanogaster, through in vivo and in vitro assays. During the thesis I had a role as a company worker for 6 months, here I learned many techniques such as preparation of media cultures, chromatography techniques, in vitro and in vivo assays, immunoassays, and handling human and animal cells.
My summer internship lasted a month, there I did purification, extraction, and isolation of proteins, I learned different techniques such as dialysis, different types of chromatography (affinity, and ion exchange), SDS-PAGE analysis, MST (thermophoresis), and fluorescence microscopy.
During my bachelor's degree, I had between 2 and 3 practical classes per week where I learned different techniques like HPLC, TLC, Western Blot, RMN, IR, X-Ray, UV, Circular dichroism, DNA purification, and enzyme kinetics.
